Overview

Following a series of events that rendered me on sick leave for a while due to mental health, I wanted to create an app that would bring me back to the present. The 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 grounding technique always seemed to help me so I wanted an easy to access app and I wanted to log my previous responses to see if there was a pattern or similarity to my observations. I also wanted to end the series of questions with a breathing exercise to properly bring me back to me.

Initially this project began as an experimental collaboration with Gemini, taking aesthetic cues from the calming world of Headspace. Not thinking much of it, I then started to properly get involved in the design development and started to venture down the branding route and UI/UX of the app, wanting to develop the app further with the end goal of one day publishing it on the Google Play store.

Initially I took to Weavy with the objective of creating Headspace-inspired illustrations. I then created my own illustrations using Weavy's output as a base and developed a colour palette, bespoke icons and components.

In terms of the colours used, I wanted to integrate soft, mindful tones to create an interface that feels like a supportive companion.

This is a mock-up of how the app may look on the Google Play Store, designed to provide a calming and seamless user experience from the very first interaction.

Why stop there? Here’s some merch. From tote bags that carry a little bit of calm to mindful notebooks for daily reflections, GroundMe could grow into a lifestyle brand that supports mental health journey beyond the screen.
